This bug is also true for MacBook Pro v2 laptops (from november 2006).
The wireless adapter is not supported by the current stable version of the 
madwifi-ng driver.
However it is supported in svn since april 2007. I have been compiling the 
driver from SVN since then it works great.

Maybe you could include, alongside with the current stable release a SVN
snapshot of the driver in Gutsy, which the user can EXPLICITLY choose to
use instead of the stable one ?
