Same issue for me; attempting a dist-upgrade from 8.10 LTS.
Upgrade threw an error but then seemed to finish. However, upon
rebooting, the system was in an unusable state. Thanks to seeing this
page before rebooting, I knew to try
# apt-get remove linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic
...and then the
I see these same symptoms on Lenovo x301. Sleep mode on intrepid worked
fine. It just broke when I upgraded to Karmic. Sleep mode works with
Karmic on my Dell D630 at work. Is there any more specific info I can
add to this?

and i thought I was alone!.. You have described my problems exactly USB
devices and webcam issues. I was on the verge of wiping the hard drive
and starting from scratch... sometimes the devices work (especially if I
downgrade to an earlier kernel e.g. .11 - but next reboot they have
stopped working
Karic Release candidate - evolution data server maxed out at 100% and
memory usage skyrocketed - at 1.0Gb and still climbing at the moment. I
have 1 gmail calender that I tied to look at., and 2 gmail IMAP
accounts. Eeek.

Ignore my last comment. I've done some more tests trying to make a video
call to a friend running Vista. Outgoing calls seem to work every time
but answering incoming calls sometimes causes empathy to crash with a
segmentation fault. I've attached the empathy log from one of these
crashes.

Sorry, I haven't got my brain around the the main/universe split yet.
Seeing libvirt-daemon-driver-lxc is universe, then it's OK for libvirt to have
a build-dependency on libfuse-dev, even if libfuse-dev is demoted. So you
wouldn't even need to disable fuse support.

to scan Unable to connect to scanner" on new vanilla installation of

When a certificate contains an extension that when printed becomes
longer than 512 bytes (for example certificate transparency as used in
modern certs) net-snmp crashes on startup with a SIGSEGV.
The following patches fix the problem by:
- Increasing the buffer size from 512
