Went to a page with some embedded sound clips. FF asked me to choose a
plugin to install. Chose default, installed packages (mplayer etc.).
Still asked me to install plugins, so I closed FF (with option to save
session), waited for a bit, opened it again only to be told FF was

I confirm that I have exactly this problem with Firefox (I'm not running
Thunderbird) using fully-updated fresh install of Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 with
SCIM and Anthy. If Firefox spawns a new window (eg "About..." or Tools >
Addons then it immediately crashes and core dumps. I can't get a trace

Here's my experience. Launching desktop-effects from the command line
cures the problem for me.
1. When enabling desktop-effects from System > Preferences, I got no
decorations.
2. I installed gnome-compiz-manager, still no decorations.
3. I uninstalled everything compiz-related (but not XGL) us

using the Mono debugger for Beagle. Let's hope this help somebody out
there...
