I have tried upping the output of the router (Linksys w/ DD-WRT) from
100 dB to 120 then 140 but this made the connection worse (noise to
signal was awful). Once router reset back to default at 100dB it
returned to the same as prior.

Additional - Wifi just crashed and took the bluetooth with it.
Rebooting wouldn't correct it. Rebooted with original Kernel - all
working again.

The upgrade from Jaunty to Karmic was quite okay, but the reported issue

The version I am using is 1.3.9 on Ubuntu 16.04.
I changed the setting back to Auto and when I will manage to reproduce
the issue, I will let you know!
