This is happening on a machine I just upgraded to 16.10. AFAICT, from
looking back at the logs, it only started happening, regularly, after
this upgrade. :)
Only comes about every three hours here. Just wanted to confirm it
seems to exist in the latest release. Thanks.

There's now discussion going on, again, in bug 982767.

On an unrelated report (bug 982767), I had the chance to ask release
expert Steve Langasek about current bugs and Thursday's release. He

That was a different piece if software, but I'll
This could be a candidate for a "Known Issues" list, for 12.04.0. I'll
try to learn how that happens. Of course if we can't even get the bug
opened again right now, maybe that's wishful thinking. :)

Sorry, Daniel. Overexcited about aptitude. :)

Apport just sent me here, from an apparent crash, although the update-
manager window is still present and functional, after the apport window
came up.
I can only offer pretty minor details.
The upgrade was just a day's worth of updates in Precise. It included a
new kernel, with update-manager i
More minor points -
The upgrade that was happening seemed to complete fine. No packages
were in a half-installed or unconfigured state, and every available
update was completed. (And as I said, the update-manager UI didn't go
away.)

Well, I haven't been able to reproduce the crash at all. Including
manually killing g-s-d while update-manager was running (although it
just restarted itself, so that wasn't quite what I was going for.) I
don't know if g-s-d's absence was a cause, at all, or another symptom of

Apport did not save the crash report from my system, seeing the bug as a
dupe. But since the original report is older, and information was asked
for, here is the crash report from my system.

I see that in duplicate bug 915413, apt-daemon crashed just before
update-manager. There's no evidence of that in the one time this
happened to me. For whatever that's worth...

I should add that I didn't start an upgrade, then cancel it, like the
original bug reporter. I ran update-manager, and it was working away
when apport came up. These recent reports might be a lot of reasons
it's not the same bug, but this is where apport wanted to put it; same

It's not clear that this should be the same bug, but as long as new bugs
are getting duped to this one, I guess I'll have treat it that way. I
changed the title just to "apport crashes", from the original "Doing and
update and canceling it".
** Description changed:
Binary package hint: update
Oh, and I moved the original title into the description.

Oops! I retitled this bug a little while ago, and I totally messed up.
Apport had crashed on me, and I evidently got confused. I titled this
bug 'Apport crashes'. It's not, it's *update-manager* crashing. Fixed
that now, quite sorry.
To summarize, while I'm here, it looks like occasional updat
