Hello folks
I followed Igor's procedure, and got a bit further with my ubuntu 8.10 / Lenovo
T61p / Plantronics P590 combination.

I tried to comment just the lines I saw flagged as error somewhere.
Didnt work.
So I commented the whole file; removed wine and added it again ... voila,
install works.
==> this seems to be a working workaround, but obviously there is still the
need for a fix.

Public bug reported:
I am running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Lenovo W530 thinkpad.
I installed the 16.04.2 HWE stack earlier this week; and run fine with
kernel 4.8.36 for two, three days.
Yesterday, a kernel upgrade to 4.8.39 came in.
Installation went fine; but upon reboot; when I try to login ... sys
Update: a coworker with the same problem thinks that the problem is
caused by the fact that we have to use symantec antivirus on our Linux
machines.
So this only affects people running
A) unity
B) symantec antivus solution

Same for me. This happens very often when coming back form suspend or
hibernation on my fresh install of 14.04 64 bit
(using nvidia 331.49)
Workarounds:
* restarting unity
* suspending again

Same here.
I simply stopped using nautilus file copy for *anything* that is more
than 5 files and 10 MB.
Just because it is always always always much slower than anything I do
on the command line.

Expiring is fine with me for now.
As said; I think this is more of a Symantec Antivirus problem.
My system is running 4.8.0-51 as of now; and not showing this problem
any more.

I am seeing this error message too - but only since I decided to
manually install the vivid 3.18 kernel on my 14.04.

Fascinating. I just had to use luksOpen to fix my freshly installed

luksClose; I get the "resource busy" error (running the command from a
USB stick which contains ubuntu 14.04.2).

Just wondering:
Would it be possible to create a new Ubuntu component that makes use of
the new indicator system ... to display stuff that would otherwise go
the system tray?

I think I am hitting the same problem; interestingly on Xubuntu 14.04 ... and a
plantronics blackwire 420 headset.
Any time I use it to make a call (and start using its volume keys) ...
mouse/keyboard get "whacked" that way.

I see this on 14.04, too.
Very annoying. Especially when it becomes clear, that this bug is known for
months.

So as Jason said ... Java and wine get a pass ... for how long?
And Jakob is right ... enterprise LTS users can stay on 12.04 for the
next years; but there are other enterprise users who will want to update
on a regular base; and not all of them might want to add yet another ppa
to fix this.
So,
Thanks for breaking the 5000+ Ubuntu users within our company that
"enjoy" using such ancient applications like Sametime, Lotus Notes or
Symantec Antivirus. Maybe, in 5 years from now, such applications will
accept that unity exist and provide indicators. Today, they dont. Or
maybe unity is history
Working in the same company as Chris Giltnane does ... I can only agree.
If whitelisting stays disabled ... unity turns useless for me and the other
ubuntu users in our company.
We will either turn to kubuntu/xubuntu ... or Redhat or Windows. If that is
where you want to us to turn to, fine.

Question:
Not sure if I am "affected" by this bug ... I am using a Lenovo W510 with
nvidia graphics.
After upgrading to 11.10 I figured at some point, that I cant undock my laptop
any more.
Earlier on, the laptop would simply switch to the internal display - but with
unity/11.10 ...

For me, this bug is solid. I start LibreOffice, and ALT-xxx will not work.
Never ever.
Running 12.10; 64 bit; with LibreOffice 3.6.2.2
This is VERY annoying to say the least.
