Well that's exactly the kernel image that I'm running: kernel-
image-2.6.15-25-686 (with SMP). The problem is still definitely there
for me. Maybe I should add that I'm using bridged networking, not NAT?
Also, the problem could be dependent on the particular network card and
kernel module used.

In order for the ethtool command to work, you need root privileges. Try
using sudo:
$ sudo ethtool -K eth0 tso off
That should work.
BUT: the more recent patched kernels from Ubuntu do not have that
problem anymore (at least for me). If you make sure your system is up to

support turning off TSO on the fly. You'll probably need to set the

I can boot the herd3 desktop cd with 2.6.20-6-generic without problems
though. ls /dev/ shows again hde and hde1..8. being my partitions on my
primary harddrive.
But why is it hde and not sda, like it used to be? Or at least hda? No
sign of any SATA sdx devices..

In my opinion the importance of this bug should be set to "high" or even

Very cool, thanks for the hint. I ran into the same problem, and Shift-
Ctrl-V was the solution. Someone had fiddled with xine, probably trying
Shift-V and accidentally hitting Ctrl-V, turning the amplification down.
Ironically, xine also remembers these settings across restarts...

I have tried many times to get sound to work: sip:5...@ekigabut the plug
in button does not
stay in. I have never made a connection with ekiga because of this problem.

Just upgraded to Ubunto 9.04 - the Jaunty Jackalope. Since then I have
been unable to open Myenvelops at crown.org - it's a budget system.
Youtube videos work intermittently and my daughter can not access her

After updating to Ubuntu 8.10, clicking on the Bookmarks tab in the
toolbar sometimes brings up the create new bookmark dialogue or the edit
bookmark dialogue, rather than dropping the Bookmarks menu. Hitting the
History tab has also resulted

Bookmarked dialogue occasionally instead of the drop-down menu. In
addition, I've seen the 'Edit Bookmark' dialogue appear. Clicking
