I have hit this bug as well. I get an error message if any value (a valid
address or not) is entered.
It looks like this bug has been around for at least 8 years (I am writing this
2017).
The cause has been identified.
It would be nice if it was fixed.

Hello
In the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/10periodic file I set:
APT::Periodic::Enable "0"
to disable update/upgrade script.
This stopped the generation of cache files.
Still nothing is recorded in the apt log files.

Thanks for you prompt response. Given the age of the version I am running, I
have low expectations around corrective action. I did read up bug reports

Hello
I have this same problem with a twist.
I have a dual boot Win 10 / Ubuntu system running on a Gigabyte MoBo.
It all worked perfectly until I installed a media card reader. This

I have server version 12.04 installed with the same bug. I tried the

It appears that I have solved the problem related to permissions for

For clarification, the GraphicsMagick package installation appeared to be

The line:

When the line is changed to the following:

It worked.

I should have mentioned I installed Ubuntu server version 11.04, 32 bit.
Initially this bug didn't show. It appeared after playing around with some
grub settings to solve another bug (the white stripes and unreadable text).
I now intend to install server version 10.04.2 LTS
