My PC is dual boot with Win98. I don't get the background noise with sound recorders in either Win98, or Ubuntu. Sound files not recorded with Audacity do not have the noise when played by Audacity. I have a plain vanila installation of Ubuntu. The only other package I have installed is Kino. + Date 13 March 07
