Thanks for your response Sebastian.
I have checked this with Gutsy - Gaby 2.0.2-7.1ubuntu2 and see exactly
the same issue.
The dialog has plenty of room on screen but it only occupies a portion of the
screen. My resolution (now and before) is 1280x1024.
I am using the standard Gnome desktop.

Quentin,
Unfortunately this is one of those really unpleasant issues that occurred after
leaving the game running for some time, and I have not been able to reproduce
it - which may make it extremely difficult to fix (I have been here before with
stuff I maintain).
Here however is the output o

I am seeing this a great deal, I am also using the nvidia restricted
drivers, and have an AMD Turion ml-30 CPU with 3Gb of RAM. The card is a

The XV fix worked for some things, but not mythtv or miro when they play

I thought it might be desktop effects, but since I had already turned
them off (that is compiz/beryl stuff) to stop annoying games
interactions it is not them.

Intermittent Video Playback Issue in Gutsy with NVIDIA restricted driver

Additional observation - this does not affect flash based video (IE
youtube) at all. Do they not use the same video surface system as other
video playback?

The NV forums have a thread on this -
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=98852, and new nvidia
drivers - 169.07 may actually fix this issue.
I have also found out that the hang of the machine (to the extent that
RSEIUB is not responsive) occurs if the video window display is purple -
I have removed the restricted modules package, and installed NVIDIA from the
169.07 run package. So far so good - playing video with no issues. It was
intermittent, so it may take a day or two before the issue shows up. If this
works, it demonstrates that NVIDIA have already fixed the issue:

I have not been able to reproduce this in Gutsy - although I have tried
a few times. I am setting to "Fix Released" as it appears to have been
fixed between Edgy and the current version (kobodeluxe
0.4pre10-5ubuntu1).

Status: New => Fix Released

Well I have some good news. I have not seen the issue at all in the
last couple of days. The current nvidia drivers seem to have done the
trick. Any chance of them getting streamlined into the ubuntu
restricted drivers package?

Intermittent Video Playback Issue in Gutsy with NVIDIA restricted
I am still seeing this issue in the current version in Gutsy. It is
visible when fullscreen or windowed regardless of mode setting. It does
not effect the in game, help or credits screens, only the menu screens -
that includes options, save and load.

When a character has died, the death tune will sound. If this is skipped
by pressing enter to restart the level, then sometimes all game sounds
will be reduced in volume until the level is started again.
This effects the current version in
A note to say this is still present and 100% reproducible in Gutsy.
