Title:
Sound not working on HP x2 10-p030n
Interestingly, even though pulseaudio doesn't start and no sound
indicator appears on the system, if I start something using VLC, the
audio works. No sound in the browser or system, only in VLC. I guess
this is due to some bugs in pulseaudio, isn't it?

Public bug reported:
I installed today Ubuntu 18.04. I have a secondary monitor (Acer
AL1914), which does not provide a EDID, so I created one and usually
loaded directly from the kernel at startup.
The EDID is located here:
/lib/firmware/edid/al1914.bin
The kernel command line is this:
GRUB_CMD
This will be solved in linux 4.17. There was a patch in January to
enable this device: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10162493
It was merged in the future 4.17:
http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1804.0/02942.html
So now either we wait for the next kernel or someone at Canonical

I managed to get it to work.
Here is how:
copy these files as instructed in the README:
https://github.com/plbossart/UCM/tree/master/bytcr-rt5640
Then, from the terminal:
pacmd set-source-port
alsa_input.platform-bytcr_rt5640.HiFi__hw_bytcrrt5640__source
pacmd set-default-sink
alsa_output.platf
Same here (HP x2 10-p030nl). For what it's worth, I attach the result of
lsusb -v of this device.

To solve your problem just do as following:
sudo gedit /lib/udev/hwdb.d/60-keyboard.hwdb

This bug also happens to me and is solved as adam said with sudo apt-get
