Prior to a recent update in 12.04 there was a slider in settings
(Appearance?) where you could change the icons from 48px to 32px. This
seems to have vanished and the icons have been reset back to 48px in
size. I'm installing MyUnity to try an workaround this.

IIRC this happens in something to do with OpenGL but I don't know how to
find the whole stacktrace, is it logged somewhere? Let me know what I

I've since discovered that this is not the recommended way to do

Ok, I updated the BIOS to F9 and confirmed with the commands above:

Now nothing other than windows worked. I eventually figured out the BIOS
updates reset the BIOS settings, which included enabling the Intel HD Graphics
on the processor - which seems to confuse the hell out of ub

This is only for large files (e.g. movie sized 700-4000 MB)
The file transfer goes quickly (judging by the progress bar) and then
hangs a couple MB short of completed.
While it's seemingly stuck on the last few MB I opened a terminal and
confirmed that the files are complete

system is responsive and even the source and destination devices are
responsive (other copies can be performed - with the same cavaet).

That's a good point. I tested it, and that is true. Sync completes at
the same time as the copy operation. The progress bar tracks the file
cache, not the file on the usb device. That seems somewhat
misleading, but reasonable enough behavior. However, the real question
