I've noticed this behavior with Pidgin 2.5.2 under Intrepid.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Bring up pidgin and top
2) Sort top by memory usage

I agree, but this is the settings in /etc/default/apport. I'm not sure
how more enabled I can make it, yet I'm still not receiving anything in
/var/crash when I crash an application.

OK, that seemed to work. It must be something else then, because I'm
trying to get a crash report for Rhythmbox, and while the app disappears

Unfortunately I can't seem to get a crash report out of Rhythmbox. It
seems that no matter what I try with apport, it's not generating the
crash files. Would like to keep this bug open until such time as I
figure out why Rhythmbox isn't generating apport coredumps, or someone

I just ran VLC with the 3GP videos from Cranky Geeks (http://crankygeeks.com),
and they appeared to run fine. Please check with the latest version of VLC
under Hardy Heron and close this bug if you are able to view .3GP videos.

Also, I've had good success with just using autoremove and the package
name. I'd rework the command as:
sudo apt-get autoremove mpd mpc && sudo apt-get autoclean && sudo apt-
get clean && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
Though I wouldn't necessarily put the && between each command.
