It appears that difference between Feisty and Hardy is the appearance of
the sony-laptop module in Hardy - this is overriding the sonypi module
that handles the hotkeys. I suggest as an interim workaround to black
list the sony-laptop module:

I've examined this bug by putting copious amounts of debug in squashfs
and building a debugged version of the live CD. I've then tracking this
through the scsi subsystem down to the ata driver level. I believe the
bug is an underlying ata driver issue which may not be easily resolved
in 2.6

My gut feeling is that this could be a buggy ACPI configuration. When
booting with your Ubuntu LiveCD, I suggest at the initial CD boot screen
after you have selected the appropriate language next press F6 then
cursor back and modifying the end of boot line from:
initrd=/casper/initr
Removing usplash from the boot line shows that the vga console does work
correctly without usplash, the bug occurs if usplash is not removed.
I've gone through the tty and vgacon drivers and I am pretty certain it
is setting up the VGA DAC and palette correctly, so I suspect usplash
(or actually t
Forgot to add that the screen blanking is performed by setting the first
16 palette colors to black. However, if the VGA text mode is not
restored back to the correct text mode, then more of the palette colors
need to be set to black for screen blanking to occur.

Hi Julian,
"Rescheduling interrupts" is where the scheduler reschedules a process
to another core to try and load balance a system across cores. I large
amount of these could indicate processes are ping-ponging back and forth
between cores, which is not helpful.
I suggest enabling multicore powe
On a Hardy installtion, when the system is idle, please run the

from-idle ; done
..and attach the results. I'd like to see how powertop reports wakeups

Hi, just to confirm, this is a bug with the vga console driver with
setting color palettes and hence it will be wrong on any VGA hardware
with the VGA console driver.

I've looked at the key code sequence and it appears that the current
sony-laptop driver in Hardy does not support it for your model type.
What is more curious is that I cannot see how it worked for feisty or

problem not in the kernel driver sony-laptop, but at a higher level
between acpi_fakekey and the desktop.

When running PowerTop, be sure to give it several minutes run-in before
