Public bug reported:
According to various sources* , the FACS should be aligned on a 64 byte

Bug 634702 is of interest, especially

I suggest trying kernel parameters:
intel_idle.max_cstate=0
maxcpus=1
and then:
nohpet
And see if these help.

OK, So I *guess* the problem is that when in deep C states the machine
may miss HPET timer interrupts and hence on wakeup it may be falling
into this state. Clearly this has regressed in Oneiric for some reason,
so we could work on bisecting this to find out when the regression
occurred.

A newer version 0.23.25 of fwts is available which fixes this bug and a
few other minor fixes the Oneiric release.
Version V0.23.25 can be found in my PPA:

The High Precision Event Timer (HPET) hardware is the future replacement
for the 8254 and Real Time Clock (RTC) periodic timer functionality.
Each HPET can have up to 32 timers. It is possible to configure the
first two timers as legacy replacements for 8254 a
It looks like the IPI to wakeup the CPU at boot is not getting through.
Just to sanity check things, can you also test with just the kernel
parameter: "noapic" and see what happens. The output from
/proc/interrupts on the working 3.6 and not working 3.5 kernel would be
useful too.
