Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx
I'm not promted to install the drivers from the restricted driver
manager. If I install them manually, aticonfig segfaults and after a
reboot the kernel driver is unable to find the adapter.
Uninstalling the package will restore X funct

Played with this some more - The fglrx module doesn't load on it's own at boot.
There's no evidence of an attempt to load in dmesg until I manually tried with
modprobe -a fglrx
The dmesg is attached.
For the sake of completeness, here is the process I'm following:
sudo apt-get install xorg-dr
See attached.

No luck - after the most recent updates, it doesn't appear to install
the driver correctly into the kernel. That is to say that dmesg makes no
mention of 'fglrx' or 'ATI' phrases. I tried booting all available
kernels and behavior was the same for each. Also tried reinstalling in
each with the same
