I've been able to reproduce this consistently on my desktop (2.5gb ram, a...@1.6ghz singlecore, 7200rpm drive) by writing half a meg to a couple thousand different files sequentially, dropping the cache, deleting them, and starting over. Usually the machine hardlocks partway into the second cycle.
