I had this issue on Intrepid: my wireless connection always disconnected and

can you give the ~/.xsession-errors file, and can you search into
system->admin->system logs-> syslog and kernlog informations about pidgin
(segfault, error messages,...)
Which version of ubuntu do you have?
Can you post the result of:
