I can confirm that with Release, too. Same DVDRW drive from NEC (as Master),
same problem. Other cddrives work fine. I'm switched the NECdrive to slave (and
the other to master) and by using NEC the problem happens again.

I have a Dell Latitude D620 laptop, It has a single SATA disk, with
existing NTFS and FAT32 partitions and lots of free space.
When I boot with my Edgy Knot 2 liveCD and launch the graphical installer, the
disk is detected but not any of my existing partitions. The installe

same results: Knoppix desktop shows icons for all my existing
partitions; but when I try to install it to the hard disk, the
partitioner (qtparted) does not detect any existing partition, and shows

I have a simular bug andmaybe i found a workaround.
1. start the update-manager with sudo update-manager and wait until it crash
2. kopie the prerequists-sources.list from /tmp/NAMECALLEDINCONSOLE into
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/ as prerequists-sources.list
3. delete the {archiv} part from this file
I had to remove it because synaptics requested it, it has a conflict
with nvidia-glx-new (the newest nvidia driver that Desktop-Effects
uses). When installing nvidia-settings, the driver is silently reverted
to nvidia-glx, which in turn made my machine enter into safe graphics
mode.

Yes, I know I am way too lazy.
So after a little research I came up with a workaround and now my remote
is back alive.
Following laga's suggestion, you need to put the attached "remote.fdi"
file in /usr/share/hal/fdi/preprobe/20thirdparty/
Also you need to modify the file to match your remote.

again, everything works fine and fast (but this time WITH hybernation-
option)

I also had the exact same problem after I updated to 7.10. I tried
Richard solution above, logged out then back in, still no luck. Then I
tried Ben's, and now life seems good again. Perhaps both Richard & Ben's
tips are applicable here

In a fairly recent Mobo ASUS P5KC everything worked (well, audio
required an ALSA update to the latest stable), except for the integrated
gigabit ethernet controller. It has the latest available bios. The GbE
controller is enabled in the bios configuration.

nautilus, I was using search -name in a term
Not a kernel problem, thus invalidating this bug.
FYI the P5KC mobo has a silly problem; if you connect anything in the
USB910 connector (even the case front USB with no usb devices in it),
both the IDE controller and the Attansic controller do not initialize.

The bugzilla patch is from 2005, it doesn't look like the fix has been
commited to gnome: gutsy still has this problem, two years after; here's
a workaround i found googling:

Same problem here. VLC, Totem-gstreamer, Mplayer all have messed up colors
(like super-saturated); no problems with this before the upgrade.
Graphic chipset plain Intel, xorg driver is intel. Desktop effects are enabled;
disabling them from the GUI and playing the video shows the same problem.

sorry guys, i'm having the some-colors-messed-up issue when playing
videos, and from reading the above I don't understand what the
workaround is. Can someone clarify how to fix this?

Same problem as insibato here with my Dell Latitude D820;
after resume from a Suspend 2 RAM, the machine occasionally (now
alarmingly often) will show the "Screen unlock" window and prompt for
the user password, however my keyboard is dead. The USB mouse works fine
though, which means this does no
m Commnand" instead of "fast
typing"?
Anyways, fast typing worked fine in Dapper and Edgy's GNOME, so I still
suspect this is a bug.
