I have a Dell Latitude C640 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphic card.
I'm experiencing problems with the last update of the ati driver: when X
starts, gdm login screen is very corrupted...it seems that the monitor is
out-of-sync. I just tried to lower the screen resolution down to 1

So Michael Vogt has just released a new version of compiz package which
blacklist some ati mobility cards (X300,X600,X700).
I think this was the right way to go since the problem cannot be easily fixed.

use the open source driver but restricted manager suggests to install the ATI
