I got hit by this as well and agree that it is a pointless stoppage of

On my ThinkPad T60, I see a similar behaviour: on suspend / resume,
there's no sound (hibernate). When I suspend-to-ram after resume, the
sound comes back on again.
It doesn't produce sound in different kernels either once it goes.
