curious - i changed the switch and got 1Gbit on the link

I have the exact same problem, unplugging the network cable with a
domain name set slows the system down. Running strace gives me the
following log for gnome-terminal.

Yes, this is a laptop. It's a Build-To-Order model, so the manufacturer
won't be of much use (case is made by Clevo I think, parts are generic
laptop stuff). The chipset is an Intel GM965 express chipset.

My apologies. I had installed Ubuntu on VMWare, which displayed the same
problems, but wasn't certain about its relevancy and forgot about it
afterwards.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro, and it has same problem: white noise for
internal microphone.

Confirm it happens for my desktop PC here in my work office which is
behind a proxy which requires authentication.
Synaptic Package Manager works fine.
So --- this is the PERFECT reason *NOT* to 'upgrade' from 11.04 !

Hi, Folks.
I set up the function "getaddrinfo()" as specified in #288 & #290 above,
but then lost connectivity to Samba shares on other machines in the
local LAN.
When I commented-out the line "/usr/local/lib/getaddrinfo_wrap.so" in
the file "/etc/ld.so.preload", instantly my Samba shares returne
