I've done some further testing of this bug on another machine that doesnt have
a problem with the visualisation not working.
The bug is not reproducable on that machine.
However, it would still be a good idea to try and identify what is
causing the problem here and perhaps try and catch and hand
After the screen saver came on, I cannot now reproduce the problem.
I'm starting to suspect that the problem is either to do with the
drivers for the ATI card I have or with OpenGL as the problem was
originally observed after the machine was hung by the screen saver and
required a hard reboot.

My parents now have the computer, and they have noticed the problem on
several occasions. The workaround is to do a re-boot.
