could get round it was by manually installing the package from Ubuntu
16.10. Not great, that breaks the whole method of package management

you could try:
1) get to a root command line interface on boot (hold down the shift key
if grub doesn't normally appear)
2A) select recovery, then root login
2B) at the root command line enter:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331
OR
1) get to grub (hold down the shift key if grub doesn't
12.04 to 14.04 for the driver no longer to be effective, as one
understands it. Had the manufacturer updated the driver, or someone else
taken over maintenance (with or without manufacturer's sponsorship),
then this frustrating problem would not have arisen.

On starting pitivi, 2 windows appear. They freeze, show nothing and then
a few seconds later the windows disappear, Segmentation fault (core

I am running 12.04 LTS fully updated. Added new HDD and partitioned it
ready for 14.04. Went to software centre and started downloaing phase
of install of the signed kernel 14.04 I found there. Then cancelled it
when I found I could upgrade from the 'syatem up to date' link
Other kernel versions (3.2, 3.5, 3.8) report similar errors.

This bug exists in Trusty T, but not in Saucy S. Synaptic is not
rendered dysfunctional, but some piece of logic or coding is clearly
faulty!
It is easiest to spot when installing a single package, using the
terminal, and not closing the terminal on completion.

This bug occurs on a fully updated Ubuntu 13.10 installation,
incidentally with an HP printer directly attached.
