Public bug reported: On login, I am presented with a dialogue stating that frequency scaling is not available for my hardware. Also, the frequency scaling applet informs me of the same. This contradicts the physical characteristics of the CPU, which does support frequency scaling. This page informs me that Intel SpeedStep technology is available for the CPU I am using: http://ark.intel.com/products/27253
At boot, i get the following messages: * Loading cpufreq kernel modules... [fail] * Starting CPU Frequency daemon cpufreqd [fail] $ lshw provides the following output for the CPU: *-cpu product: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz vendor: Intel Corp. physical id: 1 bus info: cpu@0 version: 6.15.6 serial: 0000-06F6-0000-0000-0000-0000 size: 1650MHz width: 64 bits capabilities: fpu fpu_exception wp vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss ht tm pbe nx x86-64 constant_tsc arch_perfmon pebs bts aperfmperf pni dtes64 monitor ds_cpl est tm2 ssse3 cx16 xtpr pdcm lahf_lm dtherm configuration: id=0 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: linux-image-3.11.0-19-generic 3.11.0-19.33~precise1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-19.33~precise1-generic 3.11.10.5 Uname: Linux 3.11.0-19-generic i686 AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version k3.11.0-19-generic.
