Solved: The real problem is that the machine is connecting to the
Internet and it downloads the list of available packages, but the CD
does not have them.

Well, actually I found out that the sound had been muted for rhythmbox
and apparently the mouse-over behaviour is hooked to it, because once I
increased the volume (in sound preferences/applications) everything came

This bug is far from fixed, there was a fix committed but it didn't do
anything, they are still lot of people complaining (including myself of
course), and it seems it still happening in 10.04.
I don't know how you guys are testing this, but so far, I'm still
getting DNS delays and the browser tak
I am planning to upgrade my system at the end of the year. I will check then.
Anyway, I will try to reproduce again my problem and will post the exact
sequence of procedures that creates the problem.

I had my disk sleeping with hdparm -S 12 (60 seconds). It has no
activity (and it's unmounted) so I should stay sleeping for very long
time. Even so, the disk is constantly waking up (every 15 minutes or so)
and then sleeping again and I get these errors on dmesg:

Could it be kjournald2 that is causing the spin ups?
The disk in question is /dev/sda and apparently there is no write actions to
the disk at the time of spin up.
I don't know how to check if there is any read actions.

Setting
This is the result. Note X didn't crash, but the leftmost column of
pixels show what appears to be the rightmost edge of the original LCD
(1024x600) desktop.
Also note (missing from previous attachment) the external monitor (an
IBM A70) is not being properly identified (see #486072)
