Yes, that's the same answer slomo said when I asked him about this bug,
and as he said, using a snapshot of -plugins-bad fixes this.
We'll need for the next release or at least a pre-release of it, unless
someone can extract a patch for this.

I've just got this crash with Totem and Rhythmbox trying to play
different files, so this might be a gstreamer issue.
I'll get a backtrace with debugging symbols soon.

Attached a backtrace after installing those dbg packages.
This is 100% reproducible when trying to play an mp3 file (haven't tried other

I upgraded alsa-utils this morning (a couple of hours ago) which was
supposed to show a notification asking me to run asoundconf set-default-
card. After a reboot the notification was showed, and after running that
command everything works again.

And not a gstreamer bug. If this is a bug, it's in alsa-utils. I thought
it should call asoundconf in postinst, but you need to tell it which
sound card you want (e.g. 'asoundconf set-default-card Intel') so this
might not be possible.

Note that you first need to run 'asoundconf list' to see the list of audio cards
you have, and then pass one to 'asoundcon
This is fixed in trunk, but not in the 2.12 branch (at least not yet)
