7.04 upgrades are not supported, since Wubi 7.10 was not an official
release (because the 7.10 kernel did not fully support r/w operations in
loopfiles) and the gap between 7.04 and 8.04 is a bit too wide.

The first one is a new initramfs with sync mount options (replace
/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local and rebuild the initrd). The
sync options are for the host filesystem as opposed to the nested one
(see above comment).
The other file is /etc/
If /host cannot be remounted (as it seems) a solution might be to modify
/etc/init.d/reboot so that if a root or a host filesystem in rw mode is
detected, it will create a ram disk with /sbin/reboot and any other file
that might be required at that stage, unmount / and /host, and reboot.

would result in system freeze when using loop devices. The Wubi version
you find on the 7.10 CD is a crippled one and only supports CD boot mode
(I.E. it will help you boot a CD going around BIOS drive priority

Remounting is not supported at present. You have to umount volume and then
