another 13.04 system by simply installing and uninstalling hsqldb-server
with apt-get.

I agree that this particular issue seems to be Intel driver specific.
The Dell related issue feels like a similar symptom resulting from the
same problem, but should be addressed separately.

I am using 3.4.1 on 12.04 LTS.
Yes this is close to what i would like to see. So it would be good to
have the option to set it to display the percentage of total CPU use
instead of each 4 cores use for example. Like Windows task manager.

I can with 100% reproducibility get gnome-shell to get into a
"deadlocked" state where no further input is possible by using sshfs and
in this case gmusicbrowser, but I think a lot of apps can trigger this
behavior.
