Thanks for your advice. I muted the S/PDIF channel with alsamixer, and now the
sound works again.
I have checked the history in /etc, and found nothing that explains why the
sound stopped working. The only action is the kernel update from 2.6.35-22 to
2.6.35-23.

I have to admit I have less freezes recently, but this bug is surely not
resolved. Especially after a suspend/resume, I still have my mouse
freezing repeatdly when that kslowd process takes my CPU.

If a dock is placed on the top of the screen and the indicator is accessed in
the panel to use volume controls etc. the dock goes underneath the panel.
The dock should always be on top of the panel. Please see the screenshot of the
problem.

Actually, this problem affects all GtkSourceView-based editors I have tried.
They seem unable to handle (not so) big text files. I mean ~10MB. The editor
just hangs for long time.
When (if) it finally opens the file, any editing is practically impo
@Daniel, I think the easiest workaround is to mark the pin as a speaker pin via
user_pin_configs, although I'm not sure this wouldn't have undesirable side
effects.
Adding configurability via sysfs seems like a lot of work to me, at least if
you're aiming for more than the auto parsers.

Currently one has to change the devices.c file to change the default
options for a file system. This should be made configurable. Background
is a customer that wants to disable 'exec' on all USB keys inserted into
the system.

I enabled maveric-updates in /etc/apt/sources.list and tried to update the
alsa-utils package. I see some errors at the end of the installation and don't
know if everything got setup correctly. Here is the log (see 3 last lines):
