Well, unfortunately (or not - depending on your viewpoint), I was able
to fully install this time round.
I don't really understand why it worked this time and not the last -
perhaps it was an issue with the CD burn last time being defective
(although I did check the media before install
The main problem is that you can not even install Ubuntu Edgy Eft. The whole
system freezes permanently when HT is enabled on this particular Notebook.
Ubuntu 6.06 had no problem with enabled HT on this system, so I guess it has
something to do with the kernel-smp or multithreading.

dead, and its replacement (a Macbook) has no parallel port, so I can't

I think moin1.3 should be booted out of the archive. It is uninstallable
on Edgy, and the binary packages it builds are the same name as the ones
built by the moin source package, which makes this one effectively

I think it's largely ignored because as people have suggested, if you
use cifs instead of smbfs it works, without stalling.

In don't know how Rosetta does it, but when I do it manually, the
problem seems to me the merging of Rosetta's PO files with the POTs from
upstream.
Since the location inside the msgid is not removed, the result is

I think the suspend-to-ram problem is a separate bug (and there is a
separate bug filed). I've had this problem on three machines which were
never suspended and only one of which was a laptop. As far as I can

I ran in to this problem this morning. Asterisk wouldn't start at boot
time. I tracked the problem down to the creation of the pidfile. I
noticed a typo in the init script. The chown that changes the ownership
of the pid directory (/var/run/asterisk) was setting the user to be
'askterisk' -- no
I can confirm this problem in Edgy on x86. My /etc/crypttab has this
line:
crypt /dev/hda6
Dapper used to stop during boot and wait for the passphrase. Edgy does
not. When I boot without "splash", I can see the failure message:
Starting early crypto disks...
Enter passphrase: Command fa
As per reporter.

The resulting file permissions are correct, according to the manpage:
If none of [the letters ‘ugoa’] are given, the effect is as if ‘a’ were
given, but bits that are set in the umask are not affected.
At first I thought the exit code of 1 was a mistake, but it's not

I just found out you can right-click and 'Show hidden files' in the
firefox open file dialog. So this might not be a bug, but it is still
confusing for new users.
