The performance should be much better with the latest upload
(synaptic_0.57.11). It is still not as fast as the dapper version but
that is mostly because it is now doing more because of the new auto-
removable feature.

right, but simply skipping debootstrap will not give the expected results ...
the first step after debpootstrap is the call to apt in the chroot, since it
doesnt know about the proxy it must fail.

no, the GNOME or GTK based applications were crashing with SCIM, but now
seem OK.
The problem is that the default installation still does not let people
to just install m17n with SCIM and start using it. Some of us can patch
them up, but normal users can't, even it is just 1 or 2 lines.

The problem is solved in Edgy, although the autocompletion doesn't works
well when the directory (or file) name contains an accented char. But
this is another problem.

The dapper live-CD still hangs the system during startup. I haven't
tried a prerelease edgy live-CD, but haven't seen anything to suggest
that the problem's fixed there.

scrolled the text and a few seconds later the X-Server crashed,
restarted and took me to the login screen.
I did it a second time, same result.
