This cured up on my home desktop system by making two changes. One was
to add the kernel boot options "acpi=force lapic", as suggested above.
The second change was to use "halt -p" or "poweroff" to shut down the
machine.
This may strike everyone here as silly, but back in the day I do seem to

I was trying to install Kubuntu 6.10 beta from live CD.
Installation failed at step 5 (as far as I remember) because I could not make
manually hard drive partition. (Bug may be linked with qtparted package).
I have 3 harddrives which seem to correctely recognized since
I can also confirm this problem. No gstreamer apps are able to read from
my file-server's (Ubuntu Dapper) samba share. (Mounted through Gnome
VFS) I can read from the same share just fine on my Dapper install.

libglib-2.0.so.0 => /lib/libglib-2.0.so.0 (0xb797b000)
that's not an Ubuntu lib, Ubuntu installs glib to /usr/lib, not /lib,
Marking the bug as rejected, you installed that lib in a non-supported
way and probably want to remove it
** Changed in: gdm (Ubuntu)
Status: Needs Info => Rejected
Thank you for applying the patch. Would be nice if gaim upstream
switched to launchpad, I've to admit I don't grok the sf tracker a lot
