I thought I would report something regarding this. I had the same issue
as the orignal bug report, I could scan but not connect. Based on this
thread I compiled a 2.6.17 kernel (vanila from kernel.org ) and used the

Suspend worked on the login window of GDM, it worked perfectly with KDE,
so, we just kill the gnome-powermanager, and surprise, surprise, it
suspends perfectly well when the lid is closed.

live CD, but when running from the HD, it works SOMETIMES and sometimes

I know have enabled cups administration via web interface (used root
account to authenticate), and now *it works*. I suppose it is a real
gnome-cups-manager problem. The changes, however, show up in gnome-cups-
manager now. It seems the gnome tool only can't write settings, but can
read them.

the problem was fixed by downloading:
culmus-fancy_0.0.20051018-1_all.deb (older version)
from:
http://linux-m32r.org/dists/sid/main/binary-all/
and force-installing it, and then purging culmus-fancy.
the culmus-fancy package in the repos is still broken, though.

Sorry, I tried reinstalling since then, so the logs are lost. However, I
realize now I only had 128M of RAM, which is below the minimum. I tried
installing 5.10 (which has a 128MB requirement) but it fails. The live
version (5.10) seems to work. Maybe I have a bad hard drive.

Any help on this? I'm starting to get desperate. It takes 5-10 attempts
each time I want to boot my laptop, and on each failure I have to kill
it with the power switch.

I've got the same problem, ie my toshiba SPA40 crashes when it gets too hot,
which happens very often. I am using ubuntu (?), I don't know which version,
how can I find which version I am running? I used Debian for about a year on
this laptop and I never had any problem, same with Fedora core 4,

Just played with the (OpenSUSE 10.1-based) SLED 10 RC. It works there
because SUSE has changed the default input method from the upstream
Default (which provides the Ctrl-Shift- stuff) to XIM. Side
effect is that Ctrl-Shift- doesn't work in any gtk+ app by
default.
