YES, THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE on my computer.
The system freezes just after grub when the "splash" boot option is
present. Symptoms are : I get a "no signal" message from my monitor and
the caps lock and scroll lock key

this was just a one time issue.
Since then the updates went on successfully.
