and generating about 40MB of logs, it was run for 2 seconds from a script
including the message command. I also attached the script I used to quickly
call the splash, then the message, in X after manually starting ply

Yes it is. I tried the same with the new plymouth-and got no message response
even on the X renderer, nor did a test message.conf file dropped into /etc/init
produce any output.
Still no prompt on the cryptsetup box either.
