Great, that makes me really happy.
I almost had to re-install my cousin's machine because of this problem,
until we booted without the gui and saw this! It was really funny because I
own a x60 too and should have totally known (as well as being the linux
geek) but he picked up on it.

This is not a bug, though it occurs frequently.
The recent Lenovo Models (x series in particular) have a Wifi-Kill
Switch on the bottom of the machine (think under the right side of the
left wrist).
If the switch is set to OFF, then this will be the error given during
boot. The switch must be set
