It was waiting for approval to land in -proposed for a couple of weeks,
and after that it was rejected (by one of the archive admins, according
to the Launchpad email I received). The e-mail didn't have any
information as to why they rejected it and I didn't hear from any of the
admins.

the problem is, that not the stable vesrsion, but samba4 is coming, when
you want to use, or install from software center, for example:

The program 'samba' is currently not installed. You can install it by
typing:
apt-get inst
no - it's the server not the workstation that's the issue. Make sure you
assign it to the right domain.
