no relogin must have fixed the issue for you. My hint is that unity-
panel-service was having some problem during that session hence the
menubar was completely empty.

Should have tried this before. Reinstalling appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-gtk and
appmenu-qt solved the issue.
Does that mean that it won't be possible to disable the globalmenu? Or
that removing these packages is not the way to go to do so? There should
be a unity setting (in ccsm at least) to allow that.
Still have the same problem even when using Ubuntu 2D. Is there any way
that I can report additional infos about it? Don't know exactly how to
because I can't tell which subsystem is involved. Any log I can produce?

Upgraded about an hour ago and experiencing the same problem : nothing
is displayed on the top bar (indicators, clock, personnal and session
menu). Only the title of applications are displayed. I'm on a MacBook
Pro5.5 (nvidia gpu) with dual monitors (if this info can help).

Deleting a folder on my desktop also made the top bar info disappear.
So, it seems that any interaction with the desktop will trigger this
problem

Tried to disable the secondary monitor and it doesn't work. The problem
arise only when I launch an application (any). If I let the system alone
after opening my session, the top bar displays correctly as long as I
