I believe that the actual decision is fine because Brasero will
automatically ask people if they want to use it as the default
application for Data Cd if people try to use it to burn data, people
will have the choice! However, for people who just want to drag files to
the Cd and burn, it will still
So for example I think you would want Brasero to open when you insert a
blank CD, instead of the current window that pops up asking what type of
CD you want to burn.
You would want Brasero to open when you write click on a CD or image
file and choose copy or write to disc. Brasero would have to op
Hmm. But Brasero does Data CD burning, Audio CD burning, CD copying and
CD Image burning. So when you add Brasero to Ubuntu default, why remove
the existing Audio CD burner (serpentine) but leave in the existing data
and image burners and CD copier (all built-in to nautilus)? Now there
are two ways
Fixed: Ubuntu-desktop (1.87) now recommends brasero.

I also agree that including brasero in the default ubuntu installation
makes a lot of sense since a lot of people will use that kind of
program, burning is very popular, but nautilus CD burner is more
integrated to ubuntu desktop and it make more sense to keep it the
default burning app. However, i
Nero argument is not serious, as most people don't care about what
"ubersuperusers" want to use - they have to install their app
themselves. Nautilus CD burner is very easy to use, very good
integration, and don't have additional bloat. And no, I don't need "burn
on the fly" and other things. I jus
Brasero will be included by default in Hardy and will replace
serpentine. Nautilus-cd-burner will still be included as the default cd
burner though.

Right now Brasero 0.7 is close to be released it should be around xmas.
We start working on a patch to gnome-panel to use G-V-M default burning
application to replace the current CD/DVD Creator behavior which is

enhancements. Since
I agree with those who think that Brasero should be default burning app not
only for Ubuntu but also for GNOME!
It is perfect response for K3b in KDE taking into consideration the differences
in philosophy of GNOME and KDE enviornments.

First of all, Brasero has come up a long way. Secondly, to install K3B,
you need a number of KDE/Qt libs that don't come up by default in the
Gnome-centric system of the default Ubuntu distribution and adding all
that can push Ubuntu further than 700 MBs that they are allowed to ship
with, because
K3b is a far better piece of software and I agree with Caspar.

I agree nautilus-burn is not a fully featured bleeding edge application
but please keep in mind that the comparison to windows/nero forgets that
nautilus-burn is lightweight, installed by default and perfectly
integrates into nautilus. I therefore think it is more importand to hint

I also vote for including Brasero in Ubuntu by defaul. Thanks Mario for

There are real reasons behind my decision, and as I said ... it is for

Too bad for ubuntu. The Nautilus burn is a joke for most people,
especially users who use Nero on windows and want to try ubuntu.

I also vote for including Brasero in Ubuntu by defaul. Nautilus-burn
can not burn on the fly and it has many usability issues. It will be
great to replace the nautilus-burn component from nautilus with Brasero.
