I restarted (must have been a week or so of suspend-only uptime) and the
menu issue is not manifesting itself. I'll close this as invalid for now
but reopen it if it reappears.

Omer,
It happens all the time with all applications. It has been happening for
at least 2 weeks.
I'll try restarting my session/laptop today to see if that helps.

1. connected an external display to my netbook
2. started empathy and moved it to the right screen
3. navigated through empathy menus
