It seems to be fixed for Gutsy, by having merged the new Debian version, where
they switched to the conf.d behaviour (and use a .ini file).

I've attached a patch, though probably it may get better handled like other PHP
packages, which ask if you want to add a module - instead of just adding it at
the end of the ini file.
There should rather get a file added in the "conf.d" directory, e.g.
/etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/.

Yes, the postinst scripts are using "echo -e" and this is not supported with
dash.
It should probably get split into one echo per line, instead of using "\n".

Experiencing the same here. Fresh install from Fiesty and PHP5 and I had
to remove -e in order to work
any word on upstream fix? this should not be a difficult one

Also in Feisty. Please note this also affects the other php.ini's
including /etc/php5/cli/php.ini
I suspect this is a 'leaking' -e from an echo statement somewhere maybe
tested w/ bash instead of dash.
