Apple does something like this too, in MacOSX.
It has a few folders with specific purposes, and they all have a different icon
(comparable to an emblem).

I might not have been as clear as I wanted to be, so here goes a
clarification.
Currently the example-content package provide a Examples directory which
actually is a symlink to /usr/share/example-content (or somewhere like
that).
I want that symlink to remain, but in addition to that I want the
