Nope, that didn't work. So far, the only thing that gets sound
working is turning acpi off in the grub menu at boot time. Anybody
having some ideas about this, please comment! I'm still trying to figure
out how to get this fixed. By the way, my computer runs just fine with
acpi off. No overheat
Edit: Sorry, I meant to sat "DSDT" , the Differentiated System
Description Table".
I read a post that said a quick fix could be done by editing Grub's
"menu.lst" file and adding the boot argument "pci=nommconf". I don't
know what the heck that means. I'll try it and post back

If anybody is still working on this, I've been working on a no-sound
problem on my KDS Valiant 681XH. Please post the results of
/proc/ioports ("cat /proc/ioports"). On my computer, you'll clearly see
the Ali M5451 audio is trying to set itself up at I/O address 1000-10ff,
but gets "Stepped On" by

It unfortunately appears that this bug report has not yet been resolved.
Does this issue still exist in the Hardy Heron 8.04 LTS release? If so,
the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Alpha2 is also targeted for release Thursday.

Sorry about the late reply. I have filed a bug report at ALSA which can

Its a lap top. I have never touched any sound boards if it has one. I have

I was about to file an identical bug report. I tried doing a clean
installation of both Ubuntu 6.06 Dapper and Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy (also tried
upgrading the kernel several times). The result is exactly the same.
Right after the initial installation, there is no sound. Then I also
