We have disabled the GPU freeze handler for the release, so these
falsely triggered error messages will no longer occur in oneiric.
For precise, I will be experimenting with altering the freeze handler to
not trigger on these false positives, but that work is being tracked
elsewhere. If that does

+ The Intel driver experiences a GPU hang, but is able to recover from it
automatically. The user does not see any sort of bug/crash/lockup symptom,
however the error handler does detect the GPU hang and triggers the crash
report dialog.

Update - tested Suspend which works correctly and backlight comes back
on. However then get errors with gnome-power-manager showing 2 battery
icons (one empty one in red) and the System cog shows "Restart to
complete updates" in red also.

separate bugs. The backlight issue you just mentioned is a legitimate
issue (but probably kernel or power manager rather than xorg), however
the bug report you filed was triggered by a 'false GPU lockup', which
means that your

After a few more tests it happens exactly 10 minutes after the lock
screen so looks like a suspend issue on the GPU.

I have the same issue with a HP NC6120 laptop - all fine with 11.04 and
earlier. It happens every time the system "sleeps" - the screen goes
blank but I know it is still "working" as I have a pixel fault on the
LCD screen showing a solid vertical line which has been there for years.
