Same on 12.04.3 with tumbler 0.1.24 when thunar lists a folder with a
growing video file.
There are some upstream fixes, that might address this issue (e.g.
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8094). If so, it might be
worth backporting/upgrading tumbler in precise.

I have also experinced this issue.
Using Slomovideo to render a video this sometimes happens when i have Thunar
open in the output folder.

then closes (probably because the kernel sees the process going out of

pictures using pantheon-files. However, rather than eating up memory,
the process "tumberd" gobbles up to 100% of CPU making my laptop
overheat.

For me this happens when I navigate to ~/Pictures folder. There's a very large
.gif file there, which you can take here:

The file is GIF country map 14983x19281, file size 128MB. So I suppose tumblerd
daemon just chokes on this.
