For me this happens when I navigate to ~/Pictures folder. There's a very large 
.gif file there, which you can take here:

The file is GIF country map 14983x19281, file size 128MB. So I suppose tumblerd 
daemon just chokes on this.

I have 1GB of memory. First memory goes up to the limit, then swap goes
to 100%, it sits like this for about 2 minutes, unusable, and then back
to normal.

I found an old thread here: http://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/thunar-
dev/2008-February/004350.html discussing the problem, and from what I
understand this is still not implemented. But if someone knows the
solution (make thumbnailer ignore large pictures) this would be helpful.

For now I will just delete the file ;-)
