Hmm, getting nowhere really.
I did a few fresh installations and it failed two out of five times after i've
been trying to enable the wireless adapter. I've compared the output of lsmod
before and after installing/configuring they showed no difference.

What model of realtek adapter do you have? Is the kernel module loaded?
(Check with lsmod.) Does an eth0 adapter show up when you type ifconfig
in a terminal?
