1. unity --reset didn't help for me. It solved the problem for a few minutes
but then it re-appeared. Once the problem is there it is easy to reproduce the
issue.
2. Same applies for a new user. At a first glance the problem is not there but
appears after a few minutes of use. Again, once the pr
two things I suggest that the people facing the issue try.
1. try unity --reset in a terminal, if that does not work then
2. create a new temporary user account and check if the problem happens there
too.
if both cases don't work for anyone then a few precise steps to
reproduce the problem would
After thinking a bit on your finding I've done a little investigation of
my own and I found that in my case the root of the problem is not
covergloobus which I don't have but conky. As soon as I stop conky the
problem disappears, I restart conky the problem reappears.

I have to say that I have the same problem but I don't have covergloobus
installed. I've never used covergloobus, so this is not the core issue
with this bug.

I further "investigated" this bug since it re-appeared again after a few
minutes and finally found the problem. The bug only appears if the
application covergloobus is launched. As soon as I launch covergloobus
the "bug" appears and right after exiting the application everything is
back to normal.
Ugh I'm sorry, I accidentally changed tabs and commented on the wrong
bug.

Ok I tried with a newly created user and the problem disappears. Now it
would be interesting to know which setting caused this buggy behavior.
For testing purpose I renamed ~/.config, did a log-out and log-in and
the problem was away. This is kinda brute force solution. But lets say
that it was the
Same bug for me. It is a fresh installation of 11.04 on a macbook pro. The
problem was not there in the beginning, but this morning nautilus crashed
suddenly heavy and i had to force shutdown (the hw-way...) the machine. Since
then I struggle with the same problem. This is really annoying since
I've the same bug.
I got this after I closed nautilus which took time to close, and while
it was closing I "played" showing on and off the global menu by hovering
it. And finally it closed but while I kept the cursor on the global menu
which stay, that's the way to reproduce that bug.

The problem appears on my netbook and that of a friend as well.
It seems like it only affects people who have upgraded from 10.10 since my
fresh install on my laptop worked just fine.
How can I fix this without installing Ubuntu new??

Global menu still displaying menu after app is close

Here you can see that the terminal has been closed just like in
screenshot-1 but if you hover over the global menu without clicking
anything it displays the nautilus menu not the terminal menu.
In all of this instances I'm showing examples when there's nothing else
open at the time. It always has
Here I minimized the terminal but the menu from it still can be access
by the global menu. Not sure if this is what you intended but I think it
would be better if global menu when back to default menu.

Here you can see in the Unity launcher that all the terminal windows are
closed but you can still see "Terminal" on the global menu after I
closed it.

Do you have the option 'show_desktop' in nautilus settings in gconf-
editor disabled? as thats the only way I can reproduce this issue.

I can't reproduce this. Can you confirm that no instances of that
