1. unity --reset didn't help for me. It solved the problem for a few minutes but then it re-appeared. Once the problem is there it is easy to reproduce the issue. 2. Same applies for a new user. At a first glance the problem is not there but appears after a few minutes of use. Again, once the problem appears it is just a matter of launching covergloobus (for me) to reproduce the problem.
In order to reproduce the problem, install covergloobus or conky (didn't test this one) and use it for a moment. Continue using your machine as you would normally without spending too much time with covergloobus. You can suspending and resuming your machine just as you would normally. You won't miss the moment the issue appears since its quite annoying ;-) The problem will appear sooner or later.
